H.E. Deena Joy Amatong, Philippine Ambassador to the Lao PDR, met with H.E. Malaithong Kommasith, Lao PDR Minister of Industry and Commerce, on 19 February 2025 to discuss matters related to Philippines-Laos trade and investment cooperation.
Both explored opportunities to further promote investment and two-way trade. Ambassador Amatong noted the progress of the Monsoon Wind Energy Project in Sekong and Attapeu Provinces, in which Philippine multinational firm ACEN Renewables is an investor. Minister Malaithong highlighted the Lao PDR’s appreciation of Filipinos working in various industries in the country and contributing to the Lao economy and the country’s development. The Ambassador further highlighted that this year is an auspicious time to further enhance relations between the two countries as it marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the Philippines and the Lao PDR.
Ambassador Amatong also took the opportunity to express her sincere appreciation to Minister Malaithong and the Lao government for their warm welcome and support during her term as Philippine Ambassador to the Lao PDR. In response, Minister Malaithong expressed appreciation for the Ambassador’s efforts in further enhancing bilateral relations between the Philippines and Laos. The Minister assured the Ambassador that his Ministry will continue to work hand-in-hand with her successor and take advantage of the positive momentum in the two countries’ relations.
Ambassador Deena Amatong arrived in the Lao PDR in December 2021 and presented her credentials to H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith, President of the Lao PDR, on 23 February 2022.
