Department of Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla led the Philippine delegation to the 42nd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and Related Meetings held on 24-28 September 2024 at the National Convention Center in Vientiane, Lao PDR. Chaired by Lao PDR Minister of Energy and Mines Phosay Sayasone, the meeting discussed the importance of stabilizing the energy supply in the region and maximizing the efficient use of energy resources. The ASEAN Power Grid and enhanced pipeline connectivity were also discussed.
The DOE officials and Philippine Ambassador to the Lao PDR attended the ASEAN Energy Business Forum 2024, which was held in conjunction with the meetings. The three-day forum was aimed at strengthening regional and energy cooperation and advancing sustainable solutions for ASEAN’s future needs.
At the ASEAN Energy Awards 2024, SM City Butuan and Ayala Malls Vertis North were recognized in the Energy Efficiency and Sustainability categories.
Under the Marcos administration, the Philippines prioritizes energy security and a just clean and green energy transition in its foreign policy and engagements, including in ASEAN.
