Thirteen members of the Philippine Chess team, including children aged 9-17 years old, are currently in Vientiane to participate in the ongoing 22nd ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships, which started on 21 August and will run until 31 August 2024.
On 28 August 2024, Philippine Ambassador to the Lao PDR Deena Joy Amatong welcomed to the Embassy the young chess masters, accompanied by their parents or guardians, coaches, and coordinators from the Philippine Chess Federation. Ambassador Amatong congratulated the delegation on the wins so far and wished them the best of luck for the next rounds.
The ASEAN+ Age-group Chess Championships, held annually since 2000, is organized by the ASEAN Chess Confederation and is open to both players in the ASEAN region and all countries throughout Asia.
