Philippine Ambassador Deena Joy Amatong participated in the celebration of the 114th International Women's Day of the Lao Women’s Union (LWU), which was led by LWU President Mme. Aly Vongnobountham. The event was graced by Mme. Naly Sisoulith, spouse of Lao PDR President Thongloun Sisoulith, and was attended by Lao officials, members of the diplomatic corps, international organizations and Lao PDR’s development partners.

During her remarks, Mme. Aly Vongnobountham shared with the participants the history of International Women’s Day and its significance to what women have achieved today in the fight for gender equality. She also shared the efforts of the Lao government and the LWU in the protection of rights not only of women but also of children in the Lao PDR; in improving women participation in leadership roles; and in promoting economic opportunities for women; among others.
