The Philippine Embassy in Vientiane, led by Ambassador Deena Joy Amatong, hosted a “Kumustahan” for members of the Filipino community in Vientiane, Lao PDR. During the Kumustahan, Ambassador Amatong shared updates and developments in the Philippines and in the Lao PDR such as the upcoming ASEAN meetings and Summit, the ongoing Overseas Voting registration for the 2025 elections, and the launch of the Bagong Pilipinas campaign of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

After the Kumustahan, the Embassy, in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines, conducted a film-showing in celebration of the National Arts Month 2024. A documentary by Rhadem Musawah entitled “Hugo: A Hidden Past Revealed” was shown. The film delves on the origin and significance of the bul-ul– the iconic human-like wood carving from the northern mountains of the Philippines. Filipino snacks were served during the activity.

The event was attended by Filipinos including leaders from various religious groups, consultants, content creators as well as representatives from the education, and hospitality sectors.
